True Honour

True Honour

True Honour was established to provide solace and support to those who are often overlooked and hard to reach. Our mission is clear: to prevent abuse and save lives.

Founded in 2015 by Sarbjit Athwal and Clive Driscoll, our organisation emerged in response to the tragic murder of 27 year old Surjit Kaur Athwal, a victim of an ‘honour killing’ perpetrated by her own family. Her life was brutally taken in December 1998, marking a dark chapter in history categorised as an ‘honour killing, leaving her two young children to navigate their grief.’ At the time of her death, Surjit was a devoted mother to a seven-year-old and a nine-month-old. In a disturbing twist, her murder was orchestrated by her mother-in-law, 70-year-old Bachan Kaur Athwal, in collusion with her husband, Sukhdave Singh Athwal. To this day, her body has not been found.

Surjit’s story highlights the urgent need for organisation’s like True Honour, which tirelessly strive to connect with and advocate for marginalised individuals. With ongoing commitment to eradicating abuse and safeguarding lives, True Honour serves as a beacon of hope, actively supporting all victims of such grievous acts, championing justice, and offering essential resources for healing and prevention.’
