SECURITY INDUSTRY AUTHORITY
- LICENSING
A checklist issued by the Security Industry
Authority to help you in your preparation for Licensing all members
of Staff by early 2006.
It outlines what steps you take and the issues
you should consider to ensure the Licensing process proceeds smoothly
and efficiently and with minimal disruption to your Company's business.
STAFF INFORMATION
Information on individuals will form a key
part of all licence applications.
Now is the time to begin gathering information including:
Identify number of staff requiring
full/partial training
Staff records (including full name and address for past 5
years)
Overseas criminal record evidence for any period of 6 months
abroad in the last 5 years
Check eligibility of staff using Criminal Record Indicator
on the SIA website (www.the-sia.org.uk)
BUDGET PLANNING
Licensing will carry an initial cost. Will
the company pay for the cost of licences or will it be the individual?
This should be clearly established and communicated as early as
possible. You should also consider:
Identifying as early as possible the
number and type of licences required
Identifying a budget allocation to include training, cost
of cover for staff while training, training certificate and cost
of licence (£190 per individual)
Payment arrangements
Profiling the number of licences required over 12 months
STAFF TRAINING
Licensing will require staff to demonstrate
specific levels of competency and knowledge in the sector. Ensure
you have organised approved training (either in-house or by an approved
training provider). Also consider:
Number of staff needing training
ORGANISING LICENCE APPLICATION
You should ensure that everyone who requires
a licence is aware of what they must do and by when. Will it be
the responsibility of the individual or will you appoint a person
or team to be in charge? Also consider:
Information channels to ensure staff
know what is happening
The appointment of individuals as key contacts for guidance
and information.
